Awesome Art: Choosing The Right Pictures For Your Home

Art is a way to express ourselves, and the art we choose to hang in our home gives a real insight into who we are as a person. Pictures can help to break up plain walls and make the place look more homely, as well as provide a talking point for guests. Do you have art that you love displayed in your home? If not, here’s how you can find some.

Order a print online

If you have something specific in mind or want a particular style, colour or size for your picture then the most obvious option would be to look online. You could either order something from a store specialising in art prints, sites like Desenio work with artists and photographers and offer a huge range to choose from. Otherwise, you could browse Etsy and see if an artist is selling something you love. If you find someone whose style you love, you could even have them commission you a piece. Order a custom frame to put it in, and you’re good to go.

Scour second hand and antique shops

Secondhand and antique shops can be home to all kinds of hidden gems. Sure, you might have to dig past rows of dusty, old fashioned and unattractive pieces but you never know, you could come across something that’s absolutely perfect. Well worth keeping an eye out, and having a browse if you pass this kind of shop. Of course, with new things coming in all the time, you could get lucky and land on something you really love.

Go to a gallery

A gallery is a fun way to explore the works of different artists, buying a piece from them supports them in their work and gives you an interesting, one-off piece of art to hang in your home. Exhibits are often held in art galleries, museums and at universities so check online and see if there’s anything local to you. Even if you decide not to buy, exploring the works people have created can be a lot of fun and can also help you to pinpoint your style if you’re not sure exactly what you want.

Create something yourself

You don’t have to be an artist or a graphic designer to create something beautiful. Just have a go, see what you can come up with. Look at beginners art tutorials on Youtube and look online for inspiration. Have a play with watercolours, Photoshop, charcoal pencils or any medium you like. Alternatively, you could hang a photo that you’ve taken that you’re proud of. It doesn’t have to be a portrait or family picture if you don’t want it to be, it could be an incredible spiders web covered in frost that you snapped on the way to work, a beautiful colourful leaf you took a picture of in the autumn or even something that’s a little abstract.
